The Getty

I'm not dead set on moving out of Los Angeles, but The Getty alone is reason enough to stay. I love the Getty because (in any order):

1. Architecture: I'm no expert--I'm still trying to understand flying buttresses--but the words clean, white, texture, and flowing lines all come to mind when I think of the Getty complex.
2. The Gardens: In relatively a small area they've crammed all sorts of flowers and plants including garlic, which is surprisingly fragrant. Hmm. Maybe that's part of their conspiracy to get you to buy food since the garden is located next to the Getty Cafe. It certainly does add an odd flavor to a garden stroll.

The picture below is my favorite combination of sculpture and biology, although it doesn't quite do it justice.

The baskets are made from rebar and the flowers are bougainvillea . I always think of fairies when I see these baskets.
3. The outdoor walkways: Many of the buildings have balconies and walkways that provide a great view of the gardens below and Los Angeles, although I have yet to be there on a day when there's no haze.
4. The art collections: They've got plenty of art including some wonderful pieces by Monet and furniture that's so ornate it's wacky. I have yet to really explore the furniture building though.
5. The price: Admission is free, but it does cost $7 to park. After you see their parking structure and monorail though, you'll be willing to pay the seven bucks. And I just take it as a personal challenge to see how many people I can get inside my car the next time I go.

I like your tulips idea. I've got some in a pot too. I can't wait for them to bloom. Tulips are my favorite flower. Good news! Tim has an internship for this summer and it's paid AND they're going to pay half our rent all summer long which means we're moving out of the ghetto and into a nicer place with air-conditioning and a dishwasher!! Ahh, the simple pleasures.

Congratulations on the step up! Oh the luxuries of something as simple as a dishwasher. I just hope my tulips aren't too late, I've been wanting tulips for years.

Love the Getty, but they are having very interesting legal/financial problems these days... I hear Cali just isn’t going to put up with non-profits that act like they have money to burn.

Also, in the spirit of random comments, one of my favorite picture books, If by Sarah Perry was published by the Getty.

Also, I finally figured out to code to add your link to my blog… I am growing up so fast!
